The ANKER , a leading provider of comprehensive point-of-sale (POS) solutions, recently successfully implemented a comprehensive POS project for the retailer Thomas Philipps. Thomas Philipps, an established discount retailer with a wide range of household goods and gardening supplies, operates in several countries and has approximately 800 stores. Known for its low prices and diverse product range, the company caters to price-conscious consumers who are looking for both brand-name products and store brands.

As an expert in POS software, services, support, and POS hardware, ANKER provided ANKER comprehensive package ranging from planning and implementation to 24/7 support.

 Project Scope and Consulting

The project began with an extensive consultation phase that focused on consulting, the creation of requirements and specifications documents, and the detailed documentation of requirements. Thomas Philipps needed a modern, scalable solution to upgrade the existing point-of-sale system to a more powerful and user-friendly version. ANKER that the customer’s requirements were met–from software development to hardware delivery and installation.

Toshiba POS Software: customised to Your Needs

ANKER not only ANKER its own point-of-sale software but also customises existing systems to meet its customers’ specific needs. As part of the project with Thomas Philipps, the Toshiba point-of-sale software was tailored to the company’s requirements and enhanced to create a perfectly customised solution.

Touchscreen interface and new features for seamless checkout operations

With the new point-of-sale system, Thomas Philipps is getting a modern user interface for the first time, replacing the previous process that did not include an operator display. In addition, the system offers a range of features specifically tailored to the company’s needs:

  • Touchscreen operation: The transition from keyboard-only operation to touchscreen not only significantly improves user-friendliness but also makes the POS system faster and easier to use.Receipt cancellations directly on the screen: Partial and full cancellations can now be conveniently processed via the touchscreen.
  • Context-sensitive user interface: Throughout the entire checkout process, cashiers are shown only the fields they need, which improves clarity and significantly optimizes workflow.
  • customised receipt design: Receipts can now be easily customised to match the company's corporate design as well as branch-specific details.
  • Optimized Payment Methods Overview: All available payment methods are presented on the screen in a clear, structured, and efficient manner.
  • Transaction Log: Provides direct access to transactions at the register for better control and traceability.

Hardware from ANKER

In addition to the software, ANKER supplied the necessary hardware components for nearly 800 checkout stations. Among other things, the project utilized ANKER –flexible mounts for payment terminals, printers, and customer and operator displays. The ANKER , which have proven their reliability and durability over many years, will continue to be used.

Error-free postings and reduced training requirements

Thanks to the new, user-friendly interface, incorrect entries are a thing of the past. The intuitive design and touch functionality also significantly reduce the amount of training required for employees, making the transition to the new system easier.

 International Rollout

The rollout of the new point-of-sale system was completed in October 2024. A total of approximately 300 stores with 800 checkout stations were equipped across three countries–Germany, Austria, and Lithuania. Thanks to the software’s three language versions, all locations were able to be seamlessly integrated into the process.

The point-of-sale project at Thomas Philipps demonstrates the importance of a comprehensive solution that covers both software and hardware, as well as comprehensive service and support. With ANKER a partner, Thomas Philipps was able to modernize his POS infrastructure and make it future-proof.

This project is yet another example of how ANKER a comprehensive POS provider, understands its customers' specific needs and develops customised solutions that enhance both efficiency and user-friendliness.
