The Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG) implements the requirements of the European Accessibility Act (EAA) in Germany and obliges companies to make digital products and services accessible. The aim is to enable equal access for people with disabilities.
- EU-wide requirement: The EAA sets minimum accessibility requirements.
- Legal obligation: The BFSG transposes these requirements into German law.
- Scope: Concerns digital products and services, including certain self-service terminals, EC terminals, websites and apps.
- Obligation for companies: Retailers, banks and service providers must ensure accessibility.
- Implementation deadline: The regulations are binding from June 28, 2025.
- Penalties for non-compliance: Violations can be punished with sanctions.
The BFSG & EAA make accessibility mandatory -
