The Accessibility Improvement Act (BFSG) implements the provisions of the European Accessibility Act (EAA) in Germany and requires companies to design digital products and services to be accessible. The goal is to ensure that people with disabilities have equal access.
  • EU-wide requirement: The EAA establishes minimum accessibility requirements.
  • Legal Requirement: The BFSG transposes these requirements into German law.
  • Scope:Applies to digital products and services, including, among others, certain self-service terminals, debit card terminals, websites, and apps.
  • Requirements for Businesses:Retailers, banks, and service providers must ensure accessibility.
  • Implementation deadline:The regulations will take effect on June 28, 2025.
  • Penalties for Noncompliance:Violations may result in penalties.
The BFSG and EAA are making accessibility mandatory–
–including for certain self-service solutions at the point of sale.
